Moving, eh?
Goodbye, Louisiana.
What can I say about Baton Rouge? My first home away from home and first bike community. I rode my first 10, 20, and 30 mile rides here, and had my first flat tire with no pump or spare tube here. It will always be the place I became a bike commuter and cyclist. Shoutout to the Downtown East Social Ride, Bike Baton Rouge, and Critical Mass for showing me how to ride and do advocacy in such a car-dominant place. I'll miss you, Baton Rouge.
I live in Canada now and I'm excited to bike in a place with mild summers and proper bike lanes. This wasn't exactly the point of moving, but I'm also glad to be outside the United States for a while. I'm less excited to put my rain gear to work and finally learn how to bike up a proper hill.
I shipped my bike in a box from Bike Flights. I spent enough money on shipping and import fees that I probably could've bought a comparable, used bike. But I couldn't part ways with my trusty steed. (And my new job covered my moving expenses.)
